Two girls were drowned in a water body at Maddhaatrai village under Parbatipur upazila of the district on Thursday (October 20).
The deceased were identified as Sumaiya Akhtar Soma, 16, daughter of one Rezaul Islam Babu and Hamida Khatun, 13, daughter of one Hamidul, hailed from the village.
Both were students of Nurul Huda High School and examinees of SSC and JSC examinations respectively.
According to witnesses, some girls of the village went to the water body to take a bath in the village in the afternoon.
At one stage, Soma, Hamida, Itee and Afsana fell into quicksand.
However, the villagers rushed to the scene and rescued Itee and Afsana and later recovered the bodies of Soma and Hamida after two hours of fanatic search.
Parbatipur Model Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Mahmudul Alam confirmed the matter.
